Peace Shadow Project is a petition for a world
without nuclear weapons that you can participate in
by submitting your shadow.
These shadows will be exhibited in museums and public facilities
around the world to speak out our wish until it is a reality.
このプロジェクトは、
1945年8月9日長崎市に原子爆弾が投下された直後に撮影された
一枚の写真をきっかけにはじまりました。
そこに、被爆された方と思しき人物はいません。
あるのはただ、爆発の閃光によって焼き付けられた影。
核兵器という圧倒的な暴力によって、存在を抹消された人々。
僕たちはそこに、彼らの無言の意思を感じ、心を打たれました。
写真は1945年8月9日長崎市に原子爆弾が投下された直後、
爆心地から約4キロ南に離れた長崎要塞司令部の倉庫を撮影したもの。
影の人物は司令部所属の監視兵。梯子を降り、帯剣を羽目板に立てかけた瞬間、
爆発の閃光を浴びたと思われます。原子爆弾のエネルギーは、γ(ガンマ)線と
呼ばれる高エネルギーの電磁波として、爆発の衝撃波よりも先に放出されます。
また、その温度は木造家屋が一瞬にして発火するほどの高温に達します。
写真の人影もこの光が人物によって遮られたことでできました。
このような現象は広島と長崎のあらゆる写真の中に見ることができます。
This project started with one photo.
It was taken on Aug.9th 1945 right after the nuclear bomb
was dropped on Nagasaki.
There is no victim, just a shadow burnt on to a wall.
The shadow was created with the flash of a nuclear bomb.
People disintegrated by an absolute act of violence.
Nuclear weapons.
This photo was taken on Aug. 9th 1945 right after the nuclear bomb was dropped.
It is a wall of a storage at an army base in Nagasaki 4km away from
the point where the nuclear bomb was dropped.
It is a shadow of a soldier on guard who belonged to the headquarters.
It is believed that he had just gotten off duty and had climbed down the ladder,
taken his sword to rest it against the wall and that very moment
he was hit with the strong flash of light of a nuclear bomb.
Energy of the nuclear bomb, high energy gamma-ray which is the strong flash is
released before the explosive shock wave.
The heat is so high that a wooden house burns up instantly.
The extremely strong light created the shadow in this photo.
This is a phenomenon that can be seen in photos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
